How to prepare for an audition! :)

Do not stay up late, drink or do drugs the night before your audition. Staying up late will not do you any good the next morning, you will probably look terrible and feel terrible. Don't drink because you don't want to go in hungover because this may undermine your confidence. Don't take any sleeping pills either because you might not be up on time for the audition. You don't want to give the director any bad impressions by smelling of drink or arriving late to the audition.

Shower the night before ( I realize this is obvious). If you really want to get the part you should put effort into what you look like. You don't want to smell bad or have a bad appearance. You want to look respectable to the directors to give them a good impression. Set out your clothes the night before (if your audition is in the morning), that way you are not running around half asleep in the morning looking for clothes. Wear comfortable and flexible clothing for when you are doing a workshop. You will need flexibility so don't wear jeans. If you can afford to, buy an outfit especially for auditions, an outfit that you are only going to use for auditions. Something like, for girls a long top and leggins or jeggins and for boys tracksuit (not like the O' Neill's ones they are shit tracksuits, the cotton ones).

If you have been given a monologue to learn off by your audition, don't leave it til last minute to learn it. The minute you get it, start learning it off. If you have a monologue you want to to perform for the audition then learn it off by heart as well - don't procrastinate, that is possibly the worse thing you can do before an audition. Basically, If you don't perform well then you won't show your full ability to the director[s].

Make sure the day of your audition, you are well fed. Eat a light breakfast that is full of slow releasing energy. For example, Fruit salad and natural yogurt, high fibre cereals (bran flakes or weetabix etc). Don't over eat because in the workshop you will feel uncomfortable, and stuffed and you won't be able to give your full performance, so eat well.

Girls, do not over do it on the make-up, even if your character requires it. It is better that you have as less make-up on as possible. A light layer of foundation, mascara and eyeliner, better if they are water-proof so that if you get hot and sweaty, your make-up won't be running down your face when you have finished the workshop (you probably won't be able to go to the bathroom to fix your make-up).

If you have to travel a long distance to the audition, (if you can) travel up the night before and stay in a hostel/b&b/hotel, then do that way you will not be tired for your audition.

When you get to the audition and if your nervous, you might relax if you chat to the other people about anything other than the audition. I also believe that if you don't want to talk to people, do breathing exercises. I also recommend a herbal remedy (I will leave a picture below), its called rescue remedy, you can get it in various forms, eg. spray, drops and hard sweets.

When you get to the audition and the directors start to interview, do not put too much detail into answering the questions. They don't need your life story, basically.

Also, when you find out about the audition, research the character you want to audition for (or the monologue your doing), or the course you are auditioning for. Also prepare questions that you want to ask, it is best if you right them down. This shows your interest in the course/part.

When you are going into the audit, stay positive and confident. Even if you have to fake the confidence, do it! Confidence is the key! If you have a positive outlook going in, it will show and the directors will be impressed with you.

When you are doing your monologue, keep your words clear and pronounce your words. It is also better if you don't use an accent that isn't your own. You will get a chance to show your accents.

Last but not least, if you have facial piercings, take them out before you go in (and store them in a clean zip-lock bag or tin). You can buy retainers from your local piercer.

If you have any questions.. feel free to comment!

What do you do?

What do you do when every song reminds me of him?

Do you stop listening to music? I can't just stop listening to music.

What do I do when every picture I see... reminds me of him...?

It hurts to have to leave like this, to feel like I have no one to turn to...

I don't want to hurt you, I do really care.

I am doing this for me, I need to take this time

to let my heart let go, to separate myself from you

so my heart doesn't break when I spend time with you

This is what I need to do.
